Concept Airplane of the future from Airbus

has an interactive, virtual cabin with transparent walls. Can we wait until 2050 though which is when Airbus postulates this aircraft will come into service ?

Airbus is exploring ways of both enhancing users experiences and creating a more environmentally friendly vehicle. Among their hypothetical thinking is a transparent panoramic membrane roof enabling seeing both airspace above and below the seating and in natural light. Notwithstanding 'intelligent' cabin wall membranes and interactive games, but also a new aircraft structure would allow for walls which control air temperature.

Holographic pop-up gaming displays and in-flight virtual reality entertainment empowered  by the heat of passengers' bodies and interaction with aircraft cabin with the palm of your hand, where the aircraft recognises you and shows you to your seat and takes care of your luggage and passengers will be able to jack into the aircrafts communication system
where you will have the ability to change the size and feel of your chair.

Here now is a slick animation video with a groovy music sound track

The Nimmo Bay Experience: An Interactive 360 Video Panorama via a helicopter

"Fly in a Helicopter over Nimmo Bay Fishing & Wilderness Resort and a 150 mile track of the Beautiful British Columbia coastal mainland. Hover over pristine waterfalls, race down rivers and over oceans, explore 10,000 year old glaciers, forests, snow capped mountains reaching through clouds and amazing fishing spots secluded and hidden away from the world."

The video panorama, here, works the same way as a photographic panorama in that the viewer swings the image around, left, or right, or up or down except zooming in or out in this video panorama doesn't appear to be possible. Nevertheless you can control the view of the camera the whole time by depressing and dragging your mouse on the video once it's playing.

The entertainingly harmonious Canadian Tenors singing Hallelujah provides an added appreciative dimension, to the whole experience !

If you enjoyed this be sure to visit the Nimmo bay website for further heli-ventures.

Dramatic news video and panoramas of Brisbane's flooded CBD

Totally dire flood predicament causes anguish  and despair with floating detritus playing havoc across the Brisbane flood plain ripping at the very hearts of architecture, infrastructure, lives and families.

"Watching Australian TV you might be forgiven for thinking you're in the middle of an apocalyptic Hollywood movie going crazy with the CGI. From the gunmetal gray skies to the torrential rains and powerful floodwater tossing cars around as if they were Hot wheels toys you can't but feel a tremor run down your spine." Liz Pereira

There are 18 people confirmed dead and up to 20 something still missing after 6 days. 1000's of homes completely destroyed, 10's of thousands of people have had to leave their homes knowing that they will come back to utter environmental devastation ?

A couple of days ago Geoff Mackley and Bradley Ambrose who are in Brisbane covering this unfolding disaster,  documented some unique perspectives of the raging torrid down the Brisbane river, cajoling dozens of boats as other items smash into bridges over the Brisbane River.

The river has since reduced its girth and the long and grinding road for clean up and rebuilding is underway. Go here to read more about how the flood unfolded and how the community is now dealing with it.

Peter Murphy has some captured some really excellent photographic panoramas of the devastating floods here.

Also, Australian online mapping company Nearmap, has released a flyover map of the flood devastation, in "super high resolution and you can zoom in and see a walnut on the ground without it pixelating." via

Last evening the 17th Biennale of Sydney launched one of the most ambitious programs in its 37-Year history which is presented free to the public from 12 May until 1 August 2010 at seven venues across the heart of the city.

Here, Peter Murphy has captured a panorama of the opening party that took place in the Turbine Hall on Cockatoo Island.

Peter's panorama features a few of famous Chinese artist Cao Gu0-Quiang's large installation of “exploding” cars hanging from the interior of the roof, first seen at the Gugenheim in this little video.

The Beauty of Distance: Songs of Survival in a Precarious Age, Biennale  exhibition presents more than 440 works by 166 artists and collaborators from 36 countries, making it the largest exhibition ever staged by the Biennale of Sydney in its 37-year history. Read more.

Panoramas, Stephen Wiltshire, visits Sydney

Stephen Wiltshire is an architectural autistic savant artist and is known for his ability to draw a landscape after seeing it just once. He studied Fine Art at City & Guilds Art College. His work is popular all over the world, and is held in a number of important collections. Stephen is currently in Sydney, Australia.

He simply absorbs any architectural and or street-scape he visually inspects. You'd also have to wonder if he stores in his memory every drawing he ever made or whether he wipes the hard drive every now and again ?

Peter Murphy has captured a panorama of Stephen at work, recreating his view of the city at Customs House, Circular Quay. Check out Stephen's blog here, or view a panorama of his awesome 10 meter long drawing of Tokyo here.

Perhaps you'd appreciate a live web-cam feed of Stephen performing his unreal photographic memory in action. Hey and there's heaps of video in place when his not in the field of vision - until May 1.

OK Go: Cinematic Panorama Rock Video

While I stagger stumble my blog experience into uncharted waters of online structure, this video, pushes our viewing appreciation around a challenging space, divided into two floors of an open plan factory. The video and song production is the result of a time lapse technique and provides a wealth of unexpected surprises as the camera swims and swoons us through a panoramic cinema of pure gravity.

This immense media art project was directed by James Frost, OK Go and Syyn Labs. Produced by Shirley Moyers. The song This Too Shall Pass is from the the album "Of the Blue Colour of the Sky"

Pretty cool and fun all round really !

Descending a Spiral Escalator

There aren't many spiral escalators in the world. The video here gives us a panoramic view of traveling down one in Caesar's Palace Forum Shops, in Las Vegas.

Possibly the first spiral escalator appeared in London 1909, but was apparently scraped before completion, according to Tom Hall's blog.

One of the few and most remarkable spiral escalator installations in the world is the one found in Yokohama Minato Mirai, engineered  by the Mitsubishi Electric Corporation which has developed and manufactured successful commercial designs since the 1980s.

Spiral and or curved escalators would seem to offer unique panoramic views of any building that has large open  interior atrium airspaces.

See more curved, spiral and curiosity escalators at LifeintheFastLane, blog.

Amazing Virtual Reality Panoramic Movie

Here, Peter Murphy demonstrates an interactive time lapse panoramic movie using a flash based viewer.

The image (7 megabyte) may take a little while for some users to download.

There are 3 on screen controls to navigate the vr media movie, pressing and holding the mouse down whilst dragging the image around amazingly doesn't impede the smooth motion of the movie component.

Whilst maintaing his popular Panoramic VR Weblog, Peter is creating other experimental exploits of vr media such as was recently posted on DigitalUrban; The Edge of Sydney a stereographic time lapse.

180 degree Panorama Timelapse video

by MediaMarc is,

"Experimenting with images taken with a 180 degree circular fisheye. Remapped the image and projected onto 3D geometry to create a depthlike effect."

This example 3 2 1 ignition from backyard is the result of inverting the polarity of the image.

Sydney City to Surf Fun Run, Panorama

The City to Surf website says its now the “World’s biggest running event."

"You can see about a quarter perhaps of the 75,000 runners — waiting to start — in this panorama. The race starts quite early in the day and it is often chilly — whence the tops you can see discarded on the hedges in the panorama."

Michael Shelley won the 2009 Sun-Herald City2Surf, crossing the Bondi finish line with a time of 41:02 minutes. And Melinda Vernon was the women’s champion in a time of 47:46 minutes, almost two minutes faster than her time last year.

Autodrive: Pleasure from here to there and back.

is as described by the artist, as a 360° All-dome video. I beg to differ however, I think of it as a Spherical Panorama video.

Owi Mahn created this video specifically for the new video laser system in the Carl Zeiss Jena Planetarium. And looking at the building here, its not unlikely that this video was or is on display within the ceiling of the dome.

So this video is a flat single view rather than a completely immersive experience and is difficult to imagine the full impact it would otherwise have in situ.

Spherical landscape by Sergio Romero.

Here is an innovative yet rough approximation of an Audio Visual Spherical time lapse movie Panorama made with, you guessed it, Open Source software known as Processing and an unbelievable number of video's or perhaps just one segmented up ?

Interactive Multimedia Panorama with virtualized video actors

This cutting edge panorama is entitled Stadtimus: Halloween-Erlebnispanorama, and thus in German (you ought not let this deter you), but as you pan around you view virtualized video ghost figures and apparitions with a creepy sound track. The virtualized actors speak a script and intuit your next move around the scene. Out the corner of your eye on occasions you glimpse more apparitions as they creep out of view.

Panorama: Brian Eno Audio-light installation on Sydney Opera House sails

is part of Luminous light festival in Sydney. From May 27, the sails will be lit from 6pm - 1 am every night until June 13.

Luminous is a festival of music, ideas, light and performance presented at the Sydney Opera House curated by Brian Eno. Thie festival features a plethora of music acts, alongside public talks and spectacular light and art installations, and is presented in partnership with Sony as part of Vivid Sydney.

The projected slides are from a large audio-visual work 77 Million Paintings which uses 'self-generating software' to manipulate 300 of Eno's drawings. He says it aims to provoke 'visual ecstasy' and 'heightened calm'.

Here, Peter Murphy has provided us with a better than real life panoramic close up of Brian Eno's projection, viewing east across Sydney Cove.

Aerial Panorama's of New York

The image seen here is of Downtown New York and captured by photographers Oleg Gaponyuk and Andrei Zubets for, Pixelcase Virtual Tours. The set of seven panoramas are accompanied by a smoothly gliding sound bed.

If you are new to panoramas you can navigate or steer these panorama's around with your depressed mouse and drag, zoom in and out with the shift and control keys, or use the on board tool set.

Of the seven panoramas I prefer the Governors Island panorama, which is your favorite ?

Roger Hiorn's crystal room entitled Seizure

"In late 2008 British artist Roger Hiorn created an artwork out of an entire apartment in South London by filling it to the ceiling with a strong copper sulphate solution, waiting for crystals to form, then pumping the solution out again. The result, called ‘Seizure’, was stunning and alien. Sadly, it is no longer accessible to the public and the buildings will eventually be demolished, but it has been photographed by special arrangement. This is one of the resulting panoramas..."

Seizure, the work, a result of a chemical process involving 75,000 litres of copper being pumped into a flat to create crystalline growth on the walls. The £1 million work was commissioned by Jerwood/Artangel Open, in partnership with Arts Council England and Channel 4. According to Artangel, the artist 'makes exceptional use of unlikely materials: detergent, disinfectant, perfume, fire and copper sulphate crystals'.

Infinity Mirror : : panorama

Yayoi Kusama's “Fireflies on the Water' Installation is part of Mirrored Years, a large scale major exhibition that spans decades of her artistic practice.

Famously involved with obliteration of reality and even her self, in all her life's work, she has been obsessed with dots or in effect blotting out reality. Her fields of dots are either 'infinity dots' (positive) or 'infinity nets' (negative).

Here, Peter Murphy magically captures a globular interrior of the work for us to zoom around in, which in an intimate way demonstrates a metaphor of the universe itself .

The exhibition is at the MCA (Museum of Contemporary Art), Sydney, Circular Quay until June 8

Read more about the artist, here.

Use the Shift key to switch to a mouse wheel controlled top view of the scene.

"Papervision3D now has integrated QuadTree support. For those of you who aren’t sure what this means - it is a technique of subdividing the screen into smaller and smaller regions to resolve potential conflicts between triangles".

To see the tringles in action, after these pages load run your mouse through this figure. Gaming developers are finding new ways to include movement within panoramic fields. Manipulate this image with your mouse of these heads.

Peter Murphy Creates his new " stereo3d and timelapse " Blog

Peter Murphy intrepid inner Sydney city panoramic photographer, today, created an anaglyph stereo gif of an Aboriginal busker down on the Circular Quay promenade.

Using "a bunch of Canon TX1 Digital still cameras" Peter utilized a remarkable piece of software Stereodata Maker which assisted him in being able to trigger his "bunch of cameras" simultaneously creating an animated wiggle seen here in his opening post, (viewable with red/blue glasses).

Happy New Year from Sydney 2009

A technically proficient panorama of last night's New Years Eve fireworks by Peter Murphy beside the Sydney Harbor Bridge.

"Noteworthy this year were amazingly bright coloured spotlight effects and startling strafing sequences of fireworks along the length of the bridge."
