Plastic Kills Sea Turtles & an Hawaiian beach disaster

As if the environmental disaster currently unfolding in the Gulf of Mexico weren't enough of a man made catastrophe then watching this shameful story of the havoc and horror we have created with our everyday use of plastic. Plastic bottles, plastic cups and tops, bags plastic packaging

Seriously. Plastic lasts forever. plastic never biodegrades. Yet we use untold amounts of it  to make disposable objects that we discard after a short period of time, sometimes just minutes, or a few hours. This is not merely hazardous and cruel to all marine species but contributes greatly to the more broader problem of habitat destruction on an immense scale.

And as if that weren't enough check out the recent BBC video report on how oceanic plastic debris is turning an Hawaiian beach 'into plastic'.

You may ask just how might the world turn this form of pollution and killing of wildlife around ? Well, fifty years ago, every glass bottle you bought at the shop could be exchanged for a little money, Thus one  idea we can almost put into immediate action, might be to put pressure on policy legislators to make every product consumed in plastic, refundable !

Ever tried taking a cat for a walk ?

Although this video clip is curiously entertaining, the owners behavior is verging on animal cruelty !

Nevertheless, I have a friend that takes her cat for a walk on a leash, and as she has explained, Burmese cats would be the closest type of cat to a dog in that they have a kind of barking sound in their vocabulary and are the pedigree that can be more readily trained to walk on a leash.

Mystery Marine Animals

Four teenagers in Panama, claim they were playing near a cave at Jet Blue Hill in Cerro Azul on Saturday when they encountered a hairless mystery creature that they photographed. It appears to have an animal-like head, but a strange body with skinny, human like arms. The teens said, the creature was alive when they found it but they killed it with rocks after it began approaching them.

Although zoologists in Panama aren't sure what it is, some say it resembles a human fetus, but it appears to me be more like a genetic mutation of a shell-less turtle !

While we're on the subject of ignorant teenagers behaving like dimwits, check out how a couple of Japanese lads deal with an (unknown to them) marine creature.

Whilst we're on the subject of dimwit behavior we ought also question the motive of the CNN news video cast labeling an unknown creature as an Unidentifiable Object ?

Filmmakers Used Spy Tech to Catch Dolphin Slaughter

In the waters off Taji, Japan, occurs an horrific event of a gruesome dolphin slaughter, where at least 2,000 dolphins are taken around September each year.

World renowned Filmmaker Louie Psihoyos has made a documentary movie capturing the horrors of a "thriving operation that captures dolphins, the healthiest and handsomest of which are sold to aquariums worldwide. The rest are slaughtered, often ending up as food for human consumption, despite high mercury levels."

Louie Psihoyos recruited an expert team of divers, special-effects artists and sound specialists and used state-of-the-art equipment to infiltrate the remote cove and film the dolphin slaughter.

"The cove is like a fortress. It’s protected on three sides by steep cliffs. To get in, you need to go through a natural tunnel system that’s protected by a dog and a sensor"

The video here details the making of The Cove, (trailer), and gives us a vivid insight as to the levels of difficulty that were congruent with its actual shooting.

According to one of the experts on the team, from TV's Flipper, Ric O'Barry,

"Japanese fishermen, think of dolphins as being in the same category as fish, because the Japanese character for "whale" translates literally into "monster fish."

Louie Psihoyos comments that the cruelty inflicted on these intelligent creatures, is

"the most telling violence comes when the violence is over. When the dolphins die, their bodies sink. Divers are sent to retrieve them. Afterwards you see them smoking by the campfire with a blood-red sea behind them. There’s something so banal about it. The most revealing part is that they just had a hand in that atrocity, and life goes on.”
