Moebius Movement Five by giuliano saade
"The reflex. Illusional Infinity. Gives back all truth from its front. Hide all the truth from its back. Seams like we live in an Universe, a day, a life with no end. Reflex blinds us. Deny us half the truth in space and time. In beginnings and ends. In days and nights. The Moebius Movement Series is inspired in the Moebius curve not by its math values but by the illusion it creates. It brings us the claustrophobia of an endless universe. Like a child submerged in a pool looking up to its reflex. I use 3D programs and a little motion design to create these small peaces of infinity..."
The video was in my experience somewhat slow to begin, but is moving to fast for self absorbed pondering, but perhaps this a good thing ! However I wonder if you found the soundlessness of it, as rewarding as I do ?

A glimpse of life in the oceans under the Polar Ice
Peter Morse a freelance visualization consultant specializing in full-dome and stereoscopic content for immersive imaging systems shares with us in this informational science video an understanding of the abundance of known and newly discovered life beneath the Arctic and Antarctic Ice sheets.
The video is an accumulation of data collected from the "Census of Antarctic Marine Life (CAML) and Arctic Ocean Diversity Project (ArcOD), explaining their research and discoveries made during the International Polar Year (IPY), as part of the Census of Marine Life (CoML)."
According to Morse, "the large iceberg you see in the middle of the video was shot in stereoscopic HD (mono here) aboard the French Icebreaker L'Astrolabe - it was about 50kms long !"
Since science has established that life on earth began in the oceans, some research scientists are beginning to question if life may have started in a lump of ice ?

MXNET presents Videosculpture Installation by MXZEHN
The work by MXHEHN was in the entrance foyer of the The Mapping Festival in Geneva.
I find the video quietly engaging, but the work can't fully be appreciated until you see how it was constructed, here.
MXZEHN is a live video performance group founded by Bahadir Hamdemir and Stefan Kraus in 2000. MXNET is a network of european digital artists that originated at Bauhaus University Weimar.

555 KUBIK Projection : "How it would be, if a house was dreaming"
"The conception of this project consistently derives from its underlying architecture - the theoretic conception and visual pattern of the Hamburg Kunsthalle. The Basic idea of narration was to dissolve and break through the strict architecture of O. M. Ungers "Galerie der Gegenwart". Resultant permeabilty of the solid facade uncovers different interpretations of conception, geometry and aesthetics expressed through graphics and movement. A situation of reflexivity evolves - describing the constitution and spacious perception of this location by means of the building itself."
urbanscreen the producers of this outdoor architectural projection are a group of free media artists and architects, dealing with research and development of experimental media installations with the aim to stage urban areas.
Not only am I impressed by the Art Direction by Daniel Rossa, but I'm also quite enthralled by the soundtrack (by Jonas Wiese) and secretly wish it were possible to have seen a video, absent of mall cacophony !

Diego Stocco: Music from a tree
Sound Designer and experimental composer Diego Stocco, loves to create new sound experiences in unusual ways.
“In the garden of my house there’s a tree with lots of randomly grown twigs. It looks odd and nice at the same time. One day I asked myself if I could create a piece of music with it. To tune the tree I picked a fundamental note and tuned the twigs by trimming them with a pencil sharpener. I used two Røde NT6 and a NTG-2 as microphones, combined with a customized stethoscope. I recorded the tracks live on a Pro Tools LE system. I didn’t use any synthesizer or sampler to create or modify the sounds. All the sounds come from playing the tree, by bowing the twigs, shaking the leaves, playing rhythms on the cortex and so on.”
Diego Stocco also enjoys making the videos of his audio and music experiments as is evident in Music from a tree and Music From Sand. Be sure to check out his cool website and his blog portal on the Behance Network.

Gliider: a powerful travel research tool
Planning to go on vacation can be a nightmare for some people, whereas others take it in their stride. All those details of flights timetables bookings and the endless searchers for accommodation, restaurants, inter urban transport networks, etc .. oh the list goes and I'm certain your familiar with what I mean. Although we may eventually find all these details, and unless we carry a record of all this information, we could end up having a stressful rather than relaxing holiday.
Gliider is a piece of powerful software that takes all the fuss out of accumulating all your travel and lifestyle information and manifests as a magic button in the Firefox Browser window. The video on the homepage of the software company shows how easily you can search and accumulate all your travel and lifestyle itinerary in the one place, accessible from a computer or mobile browser any where in the world.

Chrysoglott
is the result of a collaboration between Montre Echo (Music) and videographer Benton-C Bainbridge, who shot the video in one afternoon at the New York Botanical Gardens in the Norwood neighborhood of the Bronx.
Benton-C Bainbridge is a video artist using custom digital, analog and optical systems to make movies, installations and live visual performances. In Chrysoglott he used a custom mirror/lens on his Casio Exilim EX-F1 to capture the 'planetoid' effect, and shot slow-motion footage of solace-seekers in the lush greenery.
The song title Chrysoglott is a name taken from an obscure pipe organ each bar being struck by pneumatically driven hammers producing a sound much like a celesta in an orchestra., hence he stuck his camera inside a piano then whipped the footage through Final Cut Pro and Motion to produce multi-layering tossed about with some exquiste slow motion and time lapse effects.

Animations of NASA's future in Space
Since we are celebrating and reminiscing the 40th Anniversary of the First Man on the Moon, it might be worth taking a peak at conceptualized animations of NASA's conceived future, entitled the Constellation Program.
If it proceeds as planned, astronauts will be heading to the moon sometime after 2020, with Mars to follow, post 2030. Here then is a video, detailing how manned missions to the nearby disks can be visited with NASA's new spacecraft: Ares and Orion.
Here is a finely indexed plan for the future of America's program in space we are reminded that manned missions will be taking a smaller footprint in the overall scheme of future space operations.

Toyota iQ drives up a font
Two typographers Pierre & Damien and a pro race car pilot (Stef van Campenhoudt) collaborated to design a font with a Toyota iQ car. Watch the car speed around squeeling tyres in a huge warehouse. The camera shots echo the spearing spins of the car as it zooms round the specific alloted area with calculated spin and precision handling.
The car movements were tracked using a custom software, designed by interactive artist Zachary Lieberman. Here you will see another video, and if you have been reading my blog you may witness the origin to some of my previous posts labeled Open Source.

Dupont Lightstone Welcomes us to the Digital Stone age
Dupont Lightstone has developed a new concrete building slab that has embedded fiber optics which is able to transmit images and or movies through it. This turns an otherwise boring concrete wall of floor into a new type of digital signage that puts an interactive image directly on surfaces like floors, sidewalks or other exposed surfaces like facades at street level.
"It’s aesthetic signage that becomes a natural part of the building’s architecture. It has the power to surprise because the viewer doesn't know that it’s a screen until a live image appears out of nowhere."
By embedding optical fibers into the concrete and controlling the position of each of the fibers the image is projected through to the other side where it appears. Thousands of tiny light emitting fiber ends comprises the live image and the same fibers detect touching of the surface which makes the Lightstone interactive.

Olafur Eliasson talks about his Palette; space and light
Moreso in relation to Eliasson's art practice he begins his talk with an experiment in the nature of perception directing our attention to the experiences of the after image illusions. He asks;
"What does it mean to be in a picture and what does it mean to be in a space? And what's the difference? The difference between thinking and doing."
His art is about linking thinking and doing, through provoking "us", the audience to experience something other than what we would otherwise take for granted. In the spectacular large-scale projects he's famous for (such as "Waterfalls" in New York harbor), Olafur Eliasson is altering us to our conscious perceptions of time and space and how we focus our experiences of distance.
He manipulates Architectural constructs as a means to exploit the mass market of altering perceptions of the near and far, perhaps usurping our understanding of things, as what we "once thought about it" to what we "now think about it". Such as it would be interesting to know what people think about the green dyed city waterways artworks seen in the above image !

Seabreacher: the bionic dolphin submersible fun boat
The Seabreacher design figuratively resembles a real dolphin and it works in a similar way to a real dolphin charging and diving in and out of the water just like a real one.
"The Seabreacher J is the latest offering by Innespace, designed exclusively for the recreational boating market. This new vessel incorporates a jet drive for increased safety and better surface performance. The J model is approved for recreational use by the US Coastguard and is able to be registered as a conventional powerboat in most countries. It is powered by a Rotax engine which is available in 155hp or 215hp supercharged variants."
The boat features a jet drive, which can dive to 6 feet for short periods, do 20mph underwater and is unsinkable. And they come in multi colors. But you'd definitely have to keep your eye on keeping it in open and deepish water since it traversers the water at up to 40mph. The downside is that you'd have to be prepared to part with 50k if you want one.

Artmatic Video Painting, using “Crush”, by Pitx
A few days ago I was reading a blog and landed upon the word eviscerated and for some reason I wanted desperately to remember it and thus having tonight landed upon this digital artists piece, I'm not quite certain how or why the word eviscerated was tagged to it?
"The video's audio track is Crush, a remix by Pitx, made available by ccMixter, released under the Non Commercial Sampling Plus 1.0 license."
The videographer used the video graphic software package Artmatic and having enjoyed watching some of his other video's its clear that he is seemingly mixing and matching free sources of music to his video paintings. Do you ? Like I smell a rising genre of creative composing, or is this more like a temporary dedicated screen saver ? If whatever, its definetly an okay piece of Media Art !

Mr doob presents Chrome Experiments, Not your mother's JavaScript
and whatever that means is a 100% Javascript Depth of Field animation of
"300 balls form a plane, a cube, a little universe, a sphere and then disappear. Unfortunately this piece is shy and doesn't want to interact with you yet. But nothing stops you from watching it from any angle."
Go here to view an opportunity to Launch the experiment. The animation is on a loop no sooner have the spheres exited that they reappear.
This experiment is a neat new development for Javascript engineering but Flash animations almost completely dominate the internet. Javascript on the other hand hasn't until now looked like emerging as a possible alternative. Nevertheless if you may have understood Mr doob's web page as I, then it seems Mr doob's experiment looks to be marking a path towards Google's operating system!

Giant Gundam
is a giant mechatronic animae character and has been realized by the producers of the Gundam Japanese TV Show; an animation series which started in 1979 about a future where robots or mecha Gundam's piloted by humans battle for supremacy over the evil doers. It stands 18 meters tall, the scale model was put in place to mark the 30th Anniversary of the anime's beginning. The Gundam model has 50 points of light, emits steams, and its head revolves left to right and up.
Here is IDG News media's video after it was tested in Odaiba. Another video captured at the opening ceremony recently where we are treated with an introduction to the on site food stalls. But if you prefer here is the Geeks Guide to Gundam, plus you may like to read further , or even more.

Event Horizon Captured of Black Hole at the Galactic Core
Since we now know that space is cuvred and that light contributes to its warping, many astro junkies and sci-tech geeks have managed to zoom directly into the center of our Milky Way galaxy with unparalleled detail.
Andrew J. Hanson of the University of Indiana reveals all here in his clever animation which was " put together using data collected by astronomers all over the world to examine the surroundings of the Black Hole suspected to be present at the centre of our Milky Way galaxy."
Lucky for us and this post this picture in today's Astronomy Picture of the Day provides us with a full, on upfront view of our galaxy (mind you the image linked is big), whew unreal!

Content-Preserving Warps for 3D Video Stabilization
A software engineering team has developed a technique that transforms camera shake from hand held video camera so that it appears as if they were taken with a directed camera motion.
The video discusses all current camera correction technologies such as Deshaker, 2D Stabilization, 3D Stabilization and how they implement Voodoo (a public available reconstruction system) to originally reconstruct the camera motion and a cloud of 3D scene points ...........
For the purposes of their video stabilization technique they fake small viewpoint shifts with a Content-Preserving Warp which is not they say, linearly accurate.
Go here to download the video in either large or small sizes and all associated videos of there Siggraph Demonstration 2009 where they compare iMovie video's and Deshaker video's with their method.
With this revolutionary software, potentially everybody could be shooting Hollywood style productions, maybe?
Here to is the link for those interested in downloading the voodoo software.
The rather excellent music track is by Nuttin But Strings and hey, what cool site they've got.

Antony Gormley presents a Living Monument
"Every hour, 24 hours a day for 100 days, a different person will step up to the Fourth Plinth and help make a living portrait of the UK now.."
Viewable here the project/event appears online as a live streaming video the entire 100 days 24/7. The live video can be somewhat boring whilst an artist is setting up, but rather thankfully there is a production team switching between different camera views not necessarily always on the artist.
"This summer, sculptor Antony Gormley invites you to help create an astonishing living monument. He is asking the people of the UK to occupy the empty Fourth Plinth in Trafalgar Square in London, a space normally reserved for statues of Kings and Generals. They will become an image of themselves, and a representation of the whole of humanity. "
Go here to view his introductory video. Go here to view some Youtube video's of some of the beginner participators.
I get the feeling that Michael Jackson would have excelled himself up there, except they are only accepting UK citizens and from the willing wannabe's, only those who are selected get the opportunity.

The music track in the featured video has a certain je ne sais quoi or a an air of recognition, about it, but I'm left wondering if all his light sculptures use the same music track?
Update:
A friend has recently identified the music track as; The Dance Of The Sugar Plum Fairy from the Nutcracker Suite, by Peter Ilich Tchaikovsky, 1892.

Riversimple Urban Car
is a hydrogen fuel cell vehicle that you can’t buy, but only lease (with fuel). This new lightweight hydrogen-powered car, can travel at 50mph. The two seater Riversimple Urban Car, which weighs just 772lb (350kg), can go 240 miles without re-fueling and could be put into production as soon as 2013. Before that the project leaders plan to raise funds to build ten prototypes in the first year and 50 in the following year.
The company’s idea fosters a desire to encourage open source principles to apply to the manufacture and design of the product.
" The licensing issues are very complex (patent law is not copyright law; cars are not software) and we don’t pretend to have all the answers. It is quite possible that our license may in the end not meet the strict requirements of the Free Software Foundation. But all we really care about is that the license works to ensure that the cars can be built in hundreds of different variations around the world, by local companies and entrepreneurs as well as big multinationals if they like, and that no one company (whether Ford or Riversimple) can dominate the market and keep the ideas to itself."
Go here and you’ll be invited to contribute to make the whole vehicle a better product.
